Guaitil Pottery
The town of Guaitil, located in San Vicente de Nicoya, Guanacaste, has for more than 5,000 years produced some of the world’s most stunning pottery. Today, residents use the same traditional and ancestral techniques of the Chorotega indigenous groups to create this beautiful pottery. All pottery is made completely by hand – no foot pedal or electricity used, only the skill of the potter’s hands. Once the item is formed, contrasting clays of either ochre or black are used to wash the outside of the unfired products. Then intricate designs, said to have been power and fertility symbols of the Chorotega Indians, are hand-painted on the surface of each piece. Lizano Hot Sauce
Since 1920 this mild salsa with its original recipe has been the hallmark of “tico” cooking. A result of carefully selected vegetables and natural condiments, the unique flavor of Lizano is slightly sweet and mainly spicy.
